Merida, the role model.

Out of all the princesses in Disney, I believe that Merida, the princess in the new Disney movie, Brave, is the most positive role model for all girls. There are many reasons for this. She does not act like a male needs to lead her life. She also is more adventurous and brave. she does not want someone else to lead her life. Merida is much more active and has more trust in herself. She wants to be free.

First, she does not rely on men. All the other princesses rely on their prince or some kind of man. However, Merida does not. If you observe carefully, you can see she does not rely on men to find her fate. The other princesses teach girls that they need a man to live. They teach man will only control woman. This is gender discrimination. It is not good to learn. Merida gives a positive side on women, girls. She shows that women do not need men.

Most of the princesses in Disney teach that girls can not be adventurous. However, Merida is very active in her free time She goes to a forest to explore or she shoots arrows. Merida shows that women are not made for cleaning. They can do anything. Other princesses give the negative thought that girls should stay at home and either clean or cook. This is not true and Merida shows that women have no difference between men. All gender is equal.

In Cinderrella, she always listens to her mother even when she tells her to do chores all day. Of course, listening well is not a bad thing but if someone has an opinion they should be able to state it. but Merida is a very brave and strong princess and she rebels her parents. so she can teach the young girls to state their own opinion if they feel like it, everyone should state their opinions. Also, the girls do not have to be controlled by their parents.

So Merida is a much better role model for the girls. Even though she might not have the beautiful look, she does have the bravery girls can learn from. Thank you for reading.

Merida and her fate.

Merida, the main character of the movie "Brave" is a princess and her mother wants her to become a perfect princess. She controls every moment of her life. However, Merida wants to not be a perfect princess but a girl that is free. She wants to explore and run around the forest, shooting arrows. She and her mother has a fight about marrige and she met the wisps. They lead her to the old cottage where the witch lives, and she asked for her to change her mother's mind about marrige. The witch gave her a spell that turned her mother into a bear. Merida learns that she has to find our fate and she needs a way to change her mother back. I think the way she finds her fate is by spending quality time with her mother and she needs to realize that she is responsible for turning her mother into a bear.
First in the scene where Merida and her mother catches fish, they both realize that they can have fun spending time with each other. The mother daughter relation ship starts to show in this time. They stary to understand and care for each other. This is where they realize that they can have a good time so the reason why a realationship is needed is for her to get friendly with her mother to find her fate. that is why they need to have quality time.
She has to learn to feel sorry for her mother. Merida kept on saying that the reason why her mother turned into a bear is the witch's fault. However, the scene where she finds out only sewing back the tapestry is not the way, she feels sorry and she feels love. If she did not feel sorry, they would have never changed. So she needs to feel sorry.
I belive that Merida's fate is that she needs to have quality time with her mother and she needs to feel sorry to become more friendly with her mother. Thank you for reading my essay.

What adults can learn from kids.

Hello I am Jinwoo and lately, I have watched Adora Svitak's TED video on "What adults can learn from kids." It was amazing that a child went on a TED conference and taught adults that children should teach adults. Her bravery and success touched me and gave me hope that children can accomplish anything. She also showed that adults must have trust in children to show their skills.
First, her bravery was great. She had the guts to go up on a stage in front of adults, giving them an eight minute speech on why adults have to learn from kids. I did not even have the guts to compete in the YMCA swimming contest for kids. Adora succeeded in sending her message to adults while I always placed last. An experience going on TED is hard for even an adult to do. This proves that she is no ordinary child and I will like to get her bravery and give an amazing presentation in front of a hundred people. I can accomplish that goal if I win in the speech competition. Adora proved that being an amazing speaker does not have an age limit.
Her success is also something I admire. Adora's first book was called "Flying Fingers" and after publishing the book, she went to schools, conferences, talks, and now on TED. Her success is something everyone, even adults envy. Most people think that a child can not be a great novelist, speaker, or singer, but Adora proved adults wrong. She proved that children can be smarter and more successful than adults.
Adults should have more trust in children and they should not underestimate the intelligence of children. Adora mentioned in her speech that her parents trusted her very much. They helped Adora publish her first book, "Flying Fingers." It was popular with people and she was famous. The trust of an adult helped her succeed. She also said that children have a wider imagination and creativity. Children do not think about how hard making a glass figure is. Without children's imagination, our world would be very boring and there will be no fun in our lives.
Adora gave hope to children and she proved children can accomplish anything. As she said in her presentation, "you must lend an ear today because we are the leaders of tomorrow." Children that gave up because some adult told you that you are too young to write a novel or kids that heard that you are not smart enough to do that, do not give up! Thank you for reading my essay.

My 30 day challenges.

Hello, I am setting goals for me to do in the next 30 days. I call them my thirty day challenges. Here are the means that I will talk to of mine...

Don't leave food. Some ways I am going to achive this goal are: taking only food that I can eat, don't taking only the amount of food I can eat, and staying away from too much junk food. Food might not be precious to us but it is to Africans, so we should save food.

No computer games. I am going to use a computer for only studying and if I go home, I will not play games. I would rather play with my family.

Sleep before 12:00. I am going to sleep right after the lights go out, but if I need to go to the second study period, I will sleep right after it finishes.

These are my challenges, what are yours? Please tell!

Introduction

Hello! Welcome to jwp blog. I will talk a little bit about myself.

I lived in India for 5 years. I went to an international school called AES (American Embassy School.) I have many friends there and I enjoyed the festivals. I like Indian food like Naan and Curry. India does have many cows on the street, which I thought was cool. When I came to Korea back from India, I got two pets, a turtle and a hamster. They are both very hungry all the time.

I have one sibling. I have a little brother. We both speak English.I love English. I spoke English and improved my English skills at AES. I talk with my brother mostly in English. While reading books, I got to know that I liked the Harry Potter series. Harry Potter is smart as well as brave, and his adventures with Ron and Hermione are very good. I recommend  this book to other people that love a good adventure story.

That was about me!
